Last Wednesday, Behrend’s Music at Noon: The Logan Series kicked off the 2026-2027 school year with a striking performance from the Miguel Zenón Quartet. Hosted in McGarvey Commons and set between noon and 1 p.m., students and music lovers across Erie crowded the auditorium to enjoy the thunderous concert. 

The Miguel Zenón Quartet featured performances from pianist Luis Perdomo, drummer Henry Cole, bassist Hans Glawischnig, and finally, titular composer and saxophonist, Miguel Zenón. The Quartet played a mix of popular songs recomposed by the band as well as several original compositions from Zenón’s multitude of albums, 18 records to be exact. 

Wednesday’s concert demonstrated the band’s unique ability to blend elements from smooth contemporary jazz together with the louder, more vibrant Puerto Rican music tradition, Zenón’s home territory. Overall, the concert was a resounding success with ringing applause mingling with every concluding song and a nearly minute-long standing ovation at the end of the hour. 

Celebrating its thirty seventh season, the Logan Series is a complimentary program showcasing the diversity and exceptionalism of chamber music to our local Erie/Behrend community. Currently, there are three other concerts scheduled for the school year, with the next performance booked for October 12 and featuring the Butter Chicken Brass Band, who specializes in a blend of South Asian, New Orleans, and Baraat band music traditions.
