After the return of the famous series ‘Doctor Who’ with a Christmas special, the BBC has confirmed that the series will return with a new season in spring 2024.
According to the BBC, the new season will be the first full one with the new Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncui Gatwa, and his sidekick, Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson. Yasmin Finney and Bonnie Langford have been announced to be reprising their roles as Rose Noble and Mel Bush. Jinkx Monsoon has also been announced to debut as the Fifteenth Doctor’s enemy.
According to DisneyBlog.com, the new season will air on the BBC in the UK and Ireland. It will be available everywhere else to watch on Disney Plus. The anticipated date is May 2024.
Indira Varma from ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and Jonathan Groff are also said to be guest-starring along with Lenny Rush.
The Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, was featured in a series of special episodes that were released between November and December 2023. The special Christmas episodes were exclusive to Disney Plus, while the new season will be released on both the BBC and Disney Plus. The episodes were a lead-in to the new season that is coming in spring 2024. These episodes were the first time that Ncui Gatwa was handed over the torch of playing the doctor.
According to CNet, the lead character is a time traveler only known by the name Doctor and is an alien that can change bodies. This allowed for the special episodes to have Jodie Whittaker morph into the tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant. He had reprised his role after playing the doctor between 2005 and 2010. Even though the new episodes will be released on Disney Plus after a deal with the BBC, the previous episodes of the revived series, which started in 2005, will not be transferring to Disney Plus yet and will be available to watch on MAX. While the 1963 series will be available to watch on the streaming service Britbox, the new season should be available to stream on Disney Plus in late spring 2024.
