With the end of this year’s baseball season in sight, let’s look at the standings so far after the initial playoffs, and who the remaining teams will be competing against.

The Tigers won their bout against the Astros, taking a clean two out of three sweep in the round. They won 5-2, scoring four runs in the top of the eighth, with the Astros unable to break their streak of low-run games. This means the Tigers have now begun games against the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians are the number two seed in the American league, with the Tigers at number six. However, the two are currently tied 1-1 in the four game semi-finals.

Despite a close match, the Orioles failed to take either match against the Royals. Both games were won by a single run from the Royals, being 1-0 and 2-1 respectively. The Royals are currently facing the number one seed, the Yankees, though they too have managed to tie their games 1-1.

The Mets eventually took the win over the Brewers, being the only set of teams to have to play their third game. While neither game came close to the 8-4 sweep of the first, the final game came to a score of 4-2, squashing the Brewers’ hopes of making it to this World Series. Instead, the Mets have begun their set of games against the number two seed in the National League, the Phillies. They have taken an early lead, leading two wins to one.

The Padres eventually won against the Braves despite a close 5-4 game. While the Padres only scored in the bottom of the second inning, the Braves were unable to make up the difference despite an impressive show of endurance for the remainder of the game. However, as they take an early two games to one lead over the number one national league seed, the Dodgers, it is clear that the Padres have more than earned their right to participate.
