No one is surprised that Erling Haaland can score a lot of goals. In his first season with Manchester City, he was able to break the all-time single season goal mark with 36 goals. In total, Haaland put up 52 goals in all competitions that year. Last year, he had a bit of a down year for himself, only managing to score 38 goals in all competitions. For anyone else, that would be an incredible number to be proud of, but Haaland was left hungering for more. In only four games, Haaland has put up 9 goals. He has broken a record that Wayne Rooney set for most goals after four games. He has consistently shown that he can show up for the team when they need him, most recently in City’s win over Brentford.
But what is driving him to do so much? This is sort of up for debate. He has already won multiple Premier League titles, a FA Cup, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, as well as a plethora of personal accolades such as the Premier League Golden Boot winner in consecutive seasons. It is not like he has never won anything in his career, it is actually quite the opposite. He has won almost everything that a player can win. Here we arrive at the reason why Haaland has done so much in such a small amount of time. Haaland wants to be the best, and he has the means to do that. He is surrounded by arguably some of the best coaches in the world, including Pep Guardiola, who is the only manager to win European Trebles with multiple teams. Also take into account the other players on Manchester City. Kevin De Bruyne is incredible at reading his opponents and being able to perfectly pass the ball to Haaland in a prime scoring position consistently.
