In 2020, the British soap opera took on a storyline about the county lines drug dealing operation. County lines are when young teens are targeted by large drug gangs to sell drugs for them in small towns. On New Year’s Day in 2019, they did a flashforward episode, where it would show scenes from the show for New Year’s Day in 2020. It showed police finding drugs stuffed into the gaming controller of teen Charlie Dean. The storyline officially starts when Sid Sumners and Juliet Nightingale are recruited by Jordan Price. They then recruit teens Charlie Dean and Ella Richardson to help them sell the drugs. Over the year, the characters are groomed to carry out the crimes. Until New Year’s Eve of 2020, when the police come searching for them, Ella and Charlie end up killing Jordan.
The Salem Stalker – “Days of Our Lives”
“Days of Our Lives” is known for its crazy plotlines, but by far one of the most memorable ones is The Salem Stalker from 2003. Unlike other past serial killer storylines, the identity of the killer was a mystery for months. The killer was shown to wear a silver hockey mask, almost resembling Jason Voorhees from Friday, the 13th. The victims were the show’s most known and beloved characters, such as Maggie Horton and Cassie Brady. The killer supposedly killed 10 victims before they were revealed to be Dr. Marlena Evans, one of the most respected characters on the show. But there is a twist to the story because Marlena supposedly kills herself in the police pursuit but wakes up on a remote island, where she finds out that all her victims are still alive and that the DiMera family had set up the whole situation to make her think that she was the killer. Her name was later cleared, and she was forgiven by the other characters.
It Was All A Dream —”Crossroads””
The final episode of this soap opera aired on May 30, 2003, after being revived in 2001. It has the most crazy plot of the whole series. While the revival of the show had many changes, the final episode plot was insane. In the final episode, it was revealed that the whole revival show had just been the dream of supermarket worker and Crossroads fan Angela. The hotel did not exist but was all a dream of hers, and the characters were shoppers in the supermarket.
Storm Week – “Emmerdale”
To celebrate its 50th year on the air in 2022, this adored British soap opera “Emmerdale” created a storyline titled “Storm Week.” This storyline starts right after the death of one of the most beloved characters on the show, Faith Dingle. The week starts off as the characters are buzzing about getting ready for the upcoming wedding between two characters, Kim and Will. The story begins to rage as Amelia goes into labor in a barn. Harriet Finch dies after crashing her quad bike while looking for Amelia. Paddy asks Vinny and Liv to head out into the storm to The Woolpack to watch baby Eve. While they are out in the storm, the strong winds cause a caravan to get loose and smash into the couple. Vinny manages to escape while Liv is pinned by the caravan and tragically dies from injuries sustained in the accident. The paramedics tell Liv’s family that they cannot save her due to her being crushed so badly. She said her goodbyes in an emotional scene with her family; this moment marks the end of the storm.
The Hotten Bypass Crash – “Emmerdale”
A major storyline that took place in October 2016 is by far one of the most crazy but best storylines in “Emmerdale” history. The build-up to the crash is that Emma Barton had been keeping her husband prisoner in a house by a farm after he was caught kissing Moira Dingle. He manages to escape, and she catches up to him at the side of the road. Ashley Thomas is driving down the road after he forgets who his daughter is during her christening. He does not know that James and Emma are on the bridge, and as he drives past, Emma accidentally pushes James into the car, which causes it to flip. Pierce Harris manages to avoid one car and stops in the middle of the road, but then gets hit by a truck after it hits Ashley’s car. Paddy and Rhona’s car flips multiple times before getting hit by a Volkswagen Van. Finally, Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden’s car approach the crash, and Emma tries to warn them, which causes them to crash into the lake with Lachlan White still in the trunk of the car. Robert manages to save Aaron from the car and pull him to shore. Several characters are injured in the crash, but the only one to die is James.
