The Penn State Behrend Women’s Bowling team came up short to New Jersey in the first round of the AMCC Championships, and Pilyih was named to the all-tournament team. Behrend fell to No. 5 New Jersey City following a single elimination mega match at Pines Plaza Lanes, on Friday, March 22, 2024.
Penn State Behrend beat New Jersey City 858-571 during the traditional match, Penn State Behrend fell just shy to New Jersey City 808-753, and then New Jersey City once again defeated Behrend 4-3, in the Baker Best of Seven. Penn State Behrend was ranked #4.
Behrend took the lead 1-0 early in the contest with a 858-571 win in the traditional game against the New Jersey City Gothic Knights. Senior Bella Pilyih, of Pittsburgh, PA, took the lead for Behrend by rolling a game and season-high of 215, in team format.
Behind Pilyih was freshman Chelsea Wayne, who scored 188, which was just two under her season-record of 190.
After the first baker game, Behrend was able to maintain a one pin advantage of 158-157, but the Gothic Knights answered by winning the next three of four games, which ended up forcing the best of seven.
The final decision came in the very last game in the Best of Seven Contest, but New Jersey City was able to pull through with a 165-150 win over Behrend, which secured their first round victory.
For her work ethic and effort on Friday, Pilyih earned the AMCC All-Tournament honors.
