I am about to introduce you to one of the best music groups that has ever been: Sanam.
Sanam is an Indian pop rock band which was formed in 2010. It includes Sanam Puri as the lead vocalist and composer, Samar Puri as lead guitarist, lyricist, and composer, Venky S as bass guitarist, and Keshav Dhanraj.
While the band has created many of their own songs, their renditions of old Bollywood songs are exquisite. What I love about Sanam is that they do not simply copy older music, but they remix older pieces and convert them to 21st century work while retaining the essence.
In particular, some of my favorites are “Roop Tera Mastana”, “Gulabi Aankhen”, and “Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche”. The older, original versions are beautiful in their own right, but Sanam’s renditions are more favorable for this girl’s ear.
I also love, love, absolutely love Sanam Puri’s voice. Nothing sexier.
I highly recommend searching them up on Spotify or YouTube, and I will also be adding a playlist to the Beacon’s Spotify with my favorite Sanam songs for your convenience. And if you do not know Hindi, no need to worry; I do not either. So put your headphones on, turn the volume up, and just feel the music.
Combining contemporary with retro never felt so good.
