The Penn State Behrend Softball game had mixed results during their final day of spring break competition on Friday, March 8. During their first game against Lebanon Valley, Behrend came up short 2-0, but defeated Otterbein 4-6 during their second game of the day. Behrend defeating Otterbein improved their record from 5-4 to 6-4.
During the first game against Lebanon Valley, the game continued through the first two innings with no scoring, but Lebanon Valley made it to home place first during the third inning.
Meghan Petitte, of Sugarcreek, OH, and of Garaway High School, made a lone hit in the second inning. Lebanon Valley was able to recognize issues that Behrend was having, and made the score 100 during the third inning, which was followed by another run.
Abby Tingley, of Union City, Pennsylvania, and of Union City High School, accomplished and fanned three batters in the loss.
Moving to the second game of the day against Otterbein, Behrend was able to get on the board quickly as they made three runs during the third inning. Jocelny McNany, of Cranberry Township, PA, and of Seneca Valley High School, was able to pull together a double, and Emi Curcio, of Perryopolis, PA, and of Frazier High School, got McNany in as she accomplished her first triple of the season.
Behrend made it to a 3-0 lead over Otterbein thanks to Kayla Slvini, of McDonald, Pennsylvania, and Fort Cherry High School, got a single that got Megan Petitte to home plate.
Otterbein was able to get on the board during the fifth inning, but the Lions quickly took control with two additional runs occurring in the top of the sixth inning, and an additional insurance run in the seventh inning.
“Curcio and (sic) Petitte led with a pair of hits while Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) picked up with the win. (sic)” said Penn State Behrend Athletics.
Lindenberg contributed one run and five hits during the game, and struck out two. McNany also accomplished a pair of hits allowing her to reach her 100th career hit.
The softball team will be back in competition at a doubleheader matchup on Saturday, March 16, at Mount Union. The games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
