If you are a fan of pop punk music, then you are probably aware of Bowling For Soup. They are not as popular as Paramore, Green Day, or Blink-182, but the band has certainly stood the test of time and are still loved today by so many people.
Bowling For Soup consists of Jaret Reddick, Chris Burney, Gary Wiseman, and Rob Felicetti and the band is best known for their singles. Their most well known of these are “1985,” “Girl All the Bad Guys Want,” “High School Never Ends,” and others that were mainly released on their albums “Drunk Enough to Dance” and “A Hangover You Don’t Deserve,” which both came out in the early 2000s. They have also covered a number of songs from many different genres that have gained popularity. One of their most popular songs, “1985,” was actually a cover from the band SR-17, but Bowling For Soup’s version is arguably more popular.
I just love how self-aware the band seems to be. They know their songs are a bit silly and they refer to themselves on their Instagram as “easily the 9th best pop punk band in history!” I love music artists and bands that do not take themselves too seriously and just like to have fun and it is evident that they are exactly this type of band and it is shown prominently in their songs. They are not trying to be lyrical geniuses or anything and I appreciate that in my music listening experiences sometimes.
Also, for my fellow members of Gen Z, Bowling For Soup sings the theme song for the hit Disney Channel show, “Phineas and Ferb.” And they absolutely rock that song and I cannot imagine any other band doing it.
I hope I can see Bowling For Soup getting more love soon so I can have someone to jam to them with. Also, if anyone would like to start a pop punk band with me, please let me know.
Question for the culture: Are they bowling to gain soup or are they bowling on behalf of soup?
