ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team continued its impressive season with a commanding 90-60 victory over the Pitt-Bradford Panthers in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on the afternoon of Saturday, February 3.
The Lions showcased their dominance throughout the game, never trailing and completing a season sweep over Pitt-Bradford. With this win, Penn State Behrend improved its record to 13-7 overall and an impressive 11-2 in AMCC play. Meanwhile, Pitt-Bradford struggled to keep pace, falling to 8-12 overall and 5-9 in the AMCC.
One of the key moments in the game was Behrend’s remarkable performance beyond the arc. The team collectively drained a season-high 12 three-pointers, with eight of them coming in the second half, highlighting their offensive prowess.
Leading the charge for Penn State Behrend was Morgan Altavilla, who hails from Pittsburgh, PA. Altavilla continued her impressive scoring streak, putting up a game-high 26 points by going 9-for-16 from the field and sinking a career-high six three-pointers. Not only did she shine offensively, but Altavilla also made her presence felt on the boards with eight rebounds while contributing three assists and three steals.
Rachel Majewski, an Erie, PA native, added 25 points to the scoreboard, further emphasizing the Lions’ offensive firepower. Madilyn Boyer matched her season-best performance with 16 points, providing valuable support.
Behrend’s ability to capitalize on turnovers was another defining factor in their victory, as they scored a whopping 31 points off Pitt-Bradford’s mistakes. Additionally, their dominance in the paint added 40 more points to their impressive total.
Throughout the contest, the Lions maintained the upper hand in scoring during the first three quarters, securing their largest lead of 81-38 with 8:12 left in the fourth quarter. Although the Panthers rallied for a nine-point scoring run in the final period, it proved insufficient to overcome the deficit.
Rachel Kaulis of McKean, PA, contributed significantly to Behrend’s balanced scoring attack, with 10 points and a career-high six assists, rounding out the four players in double-digit scoring for the victorious team.
The Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team’s dominant performance continues to solidify its position as a force to be reckoned with in the AMCC. As they look ahead to the remainder of the season, their strong teamwork and scoring prowess make them a formidable opponent for any challenger in the conference.
