As a non-single person, I have the privilege to say that I love Valentine’s Day. I have heard a lot of people say that they hate Valentine’s Day and that it supports capitalism and it is just a scam by the greeting card companies and yada yada yada… I completely understand their complaints and they are totally valid. I just think that these people are kind of missing the point of the holiday.

Even though Valentine’s Day mainly focuses on couples, I believe that it can be about any type of love- romantic, platonic, familial, etc. The day is all about love and getting to feel special for everyone, even if you are not in a relationship. It is about spreading love to all and it can simply be about kindness and appreciation. You can celebrate in so many different ways, like having a “Galentine’s Day” with your friends. Or just sit at and watch a good rom com in your pajamas with a tub of ice cream. Whatever you want to do, I guess.

Being in a relationship, I will say that I am a little giddy about Valentine’s Day. And I love giving gifts and showing my appreciation for my significant other and, I will not lie, I love when they do the same for me as well. But it is not just about gifts, it is the reasons behind the gifts. It is about the feelings toward your loved one and how you show your love for them. And I give pretty good gifts so Valentine’s Day is my time to shine.

Honestly, I just love love and I feel like loving is the best thing humans can do and we should absolutely have a specific day where we celebrate that. Yes, we can all celebrate love year round, but it is nice to have an annual special day for it. No matter how you choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day, I hope it is a great one for you!
