ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team made a splash in Rochester, NY, as they not only secured a convincing 186-102 victory against Nazareth in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon, January 27, but also set new team records in meters.
Led by the exceptional performance of Tim Compton from Pittsburgh, PA, the Lions dominated the competition, with Compton breaking four team records and setting a new Nazareth pool record in the 400 free with a swift 4:06.51.
Compton’s prowess extended to relay events, where he played a pivotal role in the 200 free relay’s record-setting victory with a remarkable time of 1:59.92. Additionally, Compton contributed to two other relay teams that established new team records in meters.
In the 200 medley relay, a formidable team comprising Compton, Glenn Fowkes (Vandergrift, PA), Will Perham (Upper St. Clair, PA), and Anthony Tumino (Hershey, PA) not only secured victory but also set a blazing new record, clocking in at 1:50.16.
Tumino, Jax Abele, Compton, and Perham showcased their collective strength in the 800 free relay, securing a second-place finish while setting a new team record.
Tumino’s individual achievements were notable, setting records in the 100 free (55.33) and 50 free (26.32) during the event. Meanwhile, Fowkes, who claimed victories in the 100 back (1:00.26) and the 200 back (2:14.84), set the individual team record in meters for the Lions.
Perham mirrored Fowkes’ success, securing first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.68) and the 200 breaststroke (2:25.15) while setting three records in the process.
Diver Jacob Earley, hailing from Erie, PA, displayed excellence by winning both diving events, with scores of 184.35 in the 3m and 212.35 in the 1m.
Ronan Murphy from Fredonia, NY, left his mark in the 200 fly, setting a new record with a time of 2:28.35. Meanwhile, Ryan Willis of State College, PA, showcased his dominance in the 200 IM, setting a new record at 2:23.16.
The Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team’s record-breaking spree not only secured victory against Nazareth but also demonstrated their prowess and determination in rewriting the record books. The Lions’ stellar performances set the stage for a promising season ahead.
