Let us continue with my review of the rest of the shows that I watched over the winter break.
Wednesday
This popular show was one that I just knew I was going to enjoy since I already loved the Addams family. The plot of the show is that Wednesday is sent to Nevermore Academy, which is the same school that her parents went to. While she is at school, a series of murders are happening in the local town, so Wednesday and her friends from Nevermore have to find out who is committing the crimes. When Wednesday meets Tyler, a local coffee shop barista who becomes a love interest for Wednesday, I do not know how to feel about the character. I thought that there had to be something up with him and that he could not just be a boy-next-store type of love interest. As she goes through her journey at Nevermore, she helps her friends win the student tournament, where the students have to go across the river and back on a homemade boat. She then finds out her father is wanted for murder in the town; she celebrates her birthday, goes on a first date with Tyler, and goes to her first dance. I was surprised that the writers gave Wednesday a love interest because I do not think that she ever had one in any of the other Addams Family movies or TV shows. I did love Wednesday and Tyler as a potential couple. The plot did make it seem like she was going to choose a guy who went to school with her name, Xavier. But at the end of the season, she ends up not being with either of them due to the fallout of the season finale. But I loved the first date scene where he takes her to a picnic where they watch a movie that Wednesday would think is scary—a teen romance comedy movie. I also like the scene where Wednesday and Tyler go to the dance together, and she dances before the whole dance gets ruined by the guys who put paint in the sprinkler system. By far, my favorite character in the show is Wednesday’s Companion Thing. Even though he is just a hand and cannot speak, the other characters make it, so his reactions to them are funny. I cannot wait for season 2 to be released on Netflix.
Ginny and Georgia
This was a very interesting show, in my opinion. The dynamic between Ginny and her mom, Georgia, is very interesting. Throughout the show, there are present-day scenes and flashback scenes to tell the story of how Georgia became the person that she is. Ginny just wants to finally be a teenager and have friends, which she never got to before. The two current seasons show the relationship between Ginny and Georgia, along with them navigating their own lives. For example, Ginny struggles with her mental health, finding new friends, and her relationship with her best friend’s brother Marcus. Georgia also goes through her struggles of trying to develop her relationship with the mayor, her kids’ fathers coming back into the picture, and trying not to get caught for the death of her ex-husband. Overall, I did like this show and will probably watch the next season to find out what happens next.
Young Royals
‘Young Royals’ was a show that I thought I might not enjoy as much as the others that I watched, but was I wrong? The show is one of Netflix’s international shows. The story takes place in Sweden at a boarding school where the prince of Sweden is sent after getting into trouble at his old school. The show has so many ups and downs. For example, in the season one finale, a character leaks a video of Wilhelm, who just became the newly crowned Prince of Sweden after his brother died, and Simon, Sara’s brother, the lead singer of the school’s choir, Wilhelm’s love interest. The character who leaked the video decided to do so to possibly be able to become the crown prince. The downfall of the leaked video takes place in season 2. Simon’s sister Sara and her best friend Felice also have their ups and downs. After Felice finds out that Sara is dating August, Wilhelm’s cousin and the character who has done a bunch of horrible things to the group of friends, I did like this show and cannot wait to watch season three to find out what happens next after the season 2 cliffhanger.
Overall, I fairly enjoyed all of the shows that I watched over the winter break. It was probably because most of them were drama shows, and I love some good drama. I am not able to choose a favorite of the shows that I watched because they all brought something to the table in their way that made them great shows.
