ERIE, Pa. – In a commanding performance, the Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team showcased their prowess, scoring a season-high 98 points and leaving Carlow trailing at 53 in the highly anticipated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Game of the Week on Wednesday night, January 24.

From the opening quarter, the Behrend Lions set the tone for the game, never relinquishing the lead and outshooting the Celtics with an impressive 33-10 advantage. The Lions’ first 10 minutes were particularly noteworthy, shooting 58.3 percent from the field (14-for-24), establishing a dominant lead they maintained throughout the contest.

Behrend’s defensive prowess was on full display, allowing just 41 points over the first three quarters and heading into the final period with a staggering 47-point advantage. This relentless defensive effort set the stage for their offensive triumph.

Madilyn Boyer from Saxonburg, PA, and a product of Knoch High School, led the Lions at halftime with 13 points and capped off the night with a season-best 16 points, including four successful three-pointers. Rachel Majewski, hailing from Erie, PA, and a graduate of Villa Maria Academy, recorded her first double-double of the season, contributing a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Her 10 boards matched a career high, underscoring her impact on both ends of the court.

Morgan Altavilla, a standout from Pittsburgh’s Baldwin High School, played a pivotal role in the victory, chipping in 21 points. Alexis Furyes, from Medina, OH, and representing Highland High School, displayed her dominance in the paint by pulling down a season-high 12 rebounds and tallying four blocks.

The Behrend Lions’ offensive prowess was evident in their total of 98 points, marking the highest output for the team this season. This victory also marks the fourth time they secured a win when scoring over 90 points, showcasing their ability to both control the game defensively and unleash a potent offensive attack.

With this triumph, Penn State Behrend improves to an impressive 11-6 overall record and a dominant 9-1 record in the AMCC. On the other side, Carlow drops to 9-7 overall and 7-4 in the conference. The Behrend Lions’ performance in this Game of the Week undoubtedly cements their status as a force to be reckoned with in the AMCC, leaving fans eager to witness their continued success on the court.
