ROCHESTER, NY – Despite a 178-118 defeat to Nazareth on Saturday afternoon, January 27, in Rochester, the Penn State Behrend women’s swimming and diving team made waves by setting an impressive five team records in meters.
The scoreboard may not have favored the Lions, with Nazareth securing a 178-118 victory, but the meet showcased the remarkable achievements of the Behrend team at the Nazareth University pool.
Camryn Watters, hailing from Greensburg, PA, emerged as a standout performer, contributing to four of the five records shattered during the meet. Watters displayed her prowess in the pool by clinching victory in the 100 backstroke with a remarkable time of 1:09.11, simultaneously setting a new team record.
The synergy of the team was evident in the 200 medley relay, where Watters teamed up with Heidi Schwartz, Jadyn Danylko, and Marin O’Lone to establish a new record with a swift time of 2:13.29. Remarkably, Watters set the 50 backstroke record as the lead-off for this relay, clocking in at an impressive 33.18 seconds.
The final 800 free relay saw Watters, Madelyn King, Samantha Sebulak, and Emily Russell combining forces to break another team record in meters, finishing with a time of 9:46.29. This accomplishment is even more noteworthy as the quartet secured a second-place finish in the event.
Watters wasn’t done showcasing her skills, securing a first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 1:04.21. Madelyn King, from Uniontown, PA, also left her mark by claiming second place in the 200 IM, setting a record with a time of 2:42.07.
Jadyn Danylko emerged victorious in two events for Behrend, dominating the 200 fly in 2:46.77 and the 100 fly in 1:12.95. Meanwhile, Isabel Sheridan from Allentown, PA, led the Lions in the 800 free, narrowly missing a team record but securing a first-place finish.
Though the team faced a challenging opponent in Nazareth, the record-setting performances of the Penn State Behrend women’s swimming and diving team underscored their dedication, skill, and potential for success in future competitions. As they continue to push boundaries, these achievements serve as a testament to their commitment to excellence in the pool.
