Hello, We are the staff of The Behrend Beacon, the student-run newspaper here at Penn State Behrend. As you may know, since you are reading this newspaper article, we are here to
bring you news each week through our physical papers that are on the paper stands around campus and through our website. As a member of the Behrend Beacon, you can learn how to write as a journalist, edit articles, lay out the newspaper using Adobe InDesign, manage social media accounts and our website, manage business finances, manage paper distribution, and even do photography. Students who write articles are called staff writers or contributing writers if they do not write every week. The students who are editing the articles and doing the newspaper layout are called editors. The students who take pictures are the photographers. The managing editor is the vice president of our club, while the
editor-in-chief is the president. We have several sections that students can write for: news, true crime, features, science and business, arts and entertainment, sports, and opinion. We are currently looking for editors for news, true crime, and sports. We are always looking for writers, photographers, and even social media managers. But we need a treasurer, or, as we call it, a business manager who handles the finances. We have even started an advice column for students to write to in the opinion section. Our newspaper has made our team super close together and wants to welcome students to join us.
