HIRAM, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team showcased a powerful performance at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Quad Meet hosted by Hiram on the afternoon of Saturday, January 13, securing two convincing victories.
In the opening match, the Lions faced a tough challenge against Alfred St., ultimately falling short with a final score of Alfred St. 27, Penn State Behrend 15. The Pioneers narrowly defeated Behrend in a closely contested battle, but notable performances from Jake Brown, Peyton Hearn, Martin Ohlsson, and Lane Dellaquila at 141, 149, 157, and 165 weight classes provided a silver lining. Brown secured a technical fall in seven minutes, while Ohlsson notched a major decision, and Hearn and Dellaquila recorded decision wins.
Undeterred by the initial setback, Penn State Behrend came back strong in their second match against Hiram, dominating with a final score of Penn State Behrend 53, Hiram 6. The Lions registered victories at nine of the 10 weight classes, showcasing their dominance. Notable performances included pinfalls by Brown, Ohlsson, Dellaquila, Zach Dellinger, and Matthew Caldwell. Freshman Nolan Fenton made a significant impact, securing his first collegiate victory with a pin in just 43 seconds.
In the final match of the day, Penn State Behrend continued their winning streak, defeating Pitt-Bradford with a score of Penn State Behrend 32, Pitt-Bradford 24. Hearn and Dellaquila, finishing the day with their team-high third victories, played a crucial role in securing the team’s success. Other standout performances came from Cole Neil, Zach Dellinger, and Nolan Fenton, who each earned their second victories of the meet.
The impressive display of skill and determination by the Penn State Behrend wrestling team at the AMCC Quad Meet solidifies their position as a formidable force in the conference. With a combination of experienced wrestlers and promising newcomers, the Lions are poised for a successful season ahead.
