Erie, Pa. – In a competitive matchup at the Junker Center Pool on Saturday, January 13, the Penn State Behrend women’s swimming and diving team experienced a setback on Senior Day, succumbing to Grove City with a final score of 186-110. The atmosphere was charged with both celebration and determination as seniors bid farewell to their home pool.
The scoreboard reflected the intense competition: Grove City 186, Behrend 110, leaving the home team with valuable lessons and a resilient spirit for future challenges.
Two standout performers for the Lions were Isabel Sheridan from Allentown, PA, and Camryn Watters from Greensburg, PA, each making significant contributions with two event victories.
Isabel Sheridan showcased her prowess in the water, securing the first event win of the day for Behrend in the grueling 1000-freestyle. With determination and skill, she clocked an impressive time of 11:39.69, setting the tone for the team’s performance.
The sophomore swimmer continued to shine, claiming her second victory of the day in the 500-freestyle with a remarkable time of 5:41.00. Sheridan’s stellar performance undoubtedly left an indelible mark on Senior Day.
Not to be outdone, Camryn Watters displayed her excellence in backstroke events. Watters emerged as the top-finisher in the 100-backstroke, clocking a swift time of 1:01.94. Her dominance extended to the 200-backstroke, where she recorded a top time of 2:18.77, showcasing her versatility and strength in multiple disciplines.
While the overall team result might not have favored Behrend on this particular day, the individual achievements of Sheridan and Watters underscored the team’s resilience and commitment to excellence. As the season progresses, the Lions will undoubtedly build on this experience, using it as a stepping stone for future success in the pool.
The Penn State Behrend women’s swimming and diving team, despite the defeat, remains a force to be reckoned with, with talented athletes like Sheridan and Watters leading the charge.
