As many students did as they relaxed from all the studying that they did over the fall semester, I caught up on all the Netflix shows that I wanted to watch over the winter break. Each show only had one or two seasons except for ‘YOU’, which currently has four seasons with a fifth coming out this year, but I will get to that in a moment. While this order is not the order in which I watched them but just the order in which I wrote them down, it is in no particular order. Also, why does every single show on this list end on a cliffhanger? Well, except for ‘YOU’, but I’ll get into that in part two.

XO Kitty

I honestly did not know what to expect when I first started watching this show. I thought to myself, Well, the first season must be good if it is getting another season. I had also heard good reviews about the show, but I was like, Maybe this show won’t be for me because of the characters or the storyline. To be honest, I only knew that the series was about the little sister from ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ and how she goes to Seoul, Korea, to meet his long-distance boyfriend. I thought the story sounded sweet, and I love the romance genre in TV, movies, and books. So I thought I would give the show a shot. As I started watching this show, I got invested in the love triangle between Kitty, Dae, and Yuri. At first, this love triangle was because Yuri and Dae were pretending to be in a relationship with her parents because they did not accept that she was gay and had a girlfriend named Juliana, who had been shipped off to England. But I did not expect this show to have the twist that it did. The love triangle turned into a love square, and I am here for it. I absolutely cannot wait until season 2 of XO Kitty is released.

My life with the Walter Boys

This show is one of Netflix’s most recent releases. When I found out that Netflix was doing a show based on a book that was originally a Wattpad story, I did not know what to think. I went into this show thinking that it was going to be like every other team drama, and, not to lie, it kind of was. But I got so invested in the love triangle between Jackie, the main character who goes to live with the Walter family after her family dies in a tragic accident, Alex, and Cole, two of the oldest Walter sons. Maybe I am just a sucker for a love story, especially when it is a drama show, but I thought the show was really good. I was not expecting the moment when the family found out that one of the children, Nathan, had epilepsy or when Jackie helped Danny get into Juilliard. It is such a sweet family show, and the cast of the show is a perfect fit for their roles. Overall, I loved it and will be waiting for season 2.

Heartstopper

Oh, ‘Heartstopper’, what can I say about this series except that it is incredible? This was a show I was originally torn about watching until my best friend made me watch it because it was her favorite show and she would not stop talking about it. So, I said to myself, Why not give it a shot? I did not prepare myself for the amount of emotion that was felt watching this show. The premise of the show is a love story between two boys at a fictional school called Truham Grammer. It goes through the life of a student coming out and how they are scared of what others will think. It talks about mental health with a storyline about depression and eating disorders that one of the characters, Charlie, is suffering from. Watching this show has made me understand what my own friends went through in high school, which at the time I did not even understand, and I still do not completely understand all of what they have gone through and told me during their journey. But watching this show has opened my eyes to how to be a better friend and how to support them when they need it. Not to mention that, from my friend’s perspective, it was a really good representation of the LGBTQ+ community. Overall, I look forward to the new season, and I thought the show was a really enjoyable story.

As I wrapped up my winter break, I watched many different shows on Netflix, so I had to split this article up into two parts. Part two will be in next week’s edition!
