Bradford, Pa. – In an exciting evening of wrestling at the KOA Arena in Bradford on Tuesday, November 7th, the Penn State Behrend wrestling team showcased their prowess, winning seven out of 10 bouts to defeat the Pitt-Bradford Panthers with a final score of 26-13.

The dual meet on Tuesday night saw several key moments that defined the competition:

Behrend set the tone by winning the first six bouts, accumulating a commanding 20-0 lead. The team secured five victories by decision and one by technical fall.

Matthew Caldwell of Wheatfield, NY, representing Behrend, delivered a stunning performance by pinning Josh Tosh at 197, earning a crucial six points for his team.

Peyton Hearn, hailing from Conneaut Lake, PA, dominated his match in the 157 weight class with a technical fall, triumphing over Mamady Traore with an impressive score of 18-1.

Notably, four other wrestlers claimed their first dual-meet victories of the season, showcasing the depth of Penn State Behrend’s roster.

Zach Dellinger from Williamsville, NY, started the night strong for Behrend by defeating Uriah Morris with a score of 12-8 at 125, giving the team an early lead.

Sebastian Chiesa, representing West Springfield, PA, secured a 7-0 victory over Jacob Rogers, further extending Behrend’s lead to 6-0.

Cole Neil and Martin Ohlsson played pivotal roles in expanding the lead to 12-0. Neil, from Saint Marys, PA, won decisively against Nikolas Fegert at 141 with a score of 12-6, while Ohlsson, hailing from Westfield, NY, clinched a hard-fought 4-3 victory at 149.

Lane Dellaquila, representing Saint Marys, PA, maintained the momentum with a tight 2-1 decision at 165, concluding the impressive 20-0 run by Penn State Behrend.

Despite the early setbacks, the Pitt-Bradford Panthers showed resilience and determination, collecting wins at 174, 184, and 285 to narrow the margin to 26-13.

Dennis Slovick from Pitt-Bradford secured a major decision victory of 11-3 against Ryan Gildersleeve of Penn State Behrend at 174. Colton Geitler, representing Pitt-Bradford, pinned Matthew Melchior from Behrend in 4:16 at 184.

Gavin Thompson of Pitt-Bradford closed out the night with a 9-5 decision victory over Eric Morales of Penn State Behrend in the 285 weight class.

The Penn State Behrend wrestling team’s impressive performance and ability to secure key victories in the early bouts ultimately proved to be the difference in this dual-meet showdown.

With this victory, Penn State Behrend continues to build momentum in the wrestling season, further solidifying their reputation as a formidable force in the world of collegiate wrestling.
