ALTOONA, Pa. – In a hard-fought Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) showdown, the Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team faced a tough defeat at the hands of Penn State Altoona, who secured a decisive 3-0 victory on Saturday, October 14.
The final scoreline of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-17 reflected Altoona’s dominant performance, dealing a setback to Behrend’s commendable season record.
Key moments of the match included:
- The Altoona Lions maintained their unblemished conference record, solidifying their status as a formidable force in the AMCC.
- This match marked the first instance in which Behrend lost the opening set in conference play, highlighting the challenge presented by Altoona.
- Altoona’s defense was on full display, tallying an impressive 11 total team blocks, consisting of 12 assists and five solo blocks. Additionally, they held the advantage in digs, concluding the match with a 70-59 advantage.
- Hannah Phillips, representing Pittsburgh, PA, and North Allegheny, was instrumental in Altoona’s victory, leading with 14 digs and 11 kills.
- Meg Goodsel, a native of Corry, PA, and Corry, showcased exceptional playmaking abilities, distributing 31 assists on 34 team kills while contributing eight digs.

The first set was a fierce battle, featuring 12 ties and both teams deadlocked at 14-all. Ultimately, Altoona surged ahead, clinching the set by securing the final 11 out of 15 points, setting the tone for the remainder of the match.
In the second set, Altoona maintained control throughout, never trailing and ultimately sealing the set 25-16 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Although Behrend started strong in the third set, establishing an early 4-1 lead, Altoona demonstrated resilience and rallied back. Mirroring their first-set strategy, the Altoona Lions closed out the set with an impressive run, securing the final 11 out of 14 points and ultimately clinching the match.
This victory marked a significant moment for Penn State Altoona, while Penn State Behrend will regroup and look to bounce back in their upcoming matchups.
