Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State Behrend battled it out on Sunday in an exciting doubleheader, resulting in a split of the games. The first game saw some early runs by both teams with a combined five runs just in the first inning. However, Penn State Behrend was able to secure a 9-4 victory against Pitt-Greensburg. 

Silvio Ionadi from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania started off the first inning with a triple to right center, scoring on a ground out by Isaac Stouffer from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Mac Ciocco from Venetia, Pennsylvania and Chase Palmer from Brookville, Pennsylvania also scored on the play which gave Behrend the lead 3-2. Pitt-Greensburg tied the game in the third inning, but this was not enough as Penn State Behrend responded with an incredible six-run fifth inning. Colin Kelly remained undefeated with his third win of the season, allowing only two runs while striking out four. Although Pitt-Greensburg had the edge in hits with nine compared to Behrend’s seven, Penn State Behrend managed to come out on top. 

In the second game of the doubleheader, Pitt-Greensburg had some early struggles but came back strong to win 11-2. Ryan Meneskie from Moon Township, Pennsylvania went 3-for-4 in the game, driving in the first run of the game to help Behrend go ahead 1-0. However, Pitt-Greensburg reacted swiftly with 11 runs over three straight innings, including seven runs in the fifth inning. Meanwhile, Penn State Behrend managed to score one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Stouffer scored on an RBI groundout by Shaun Mikulan from Allison Park, Pennsylvania. 

Derrick Shields from Waterford, Pennsylvania pitched the first four innings in the start for the loss, but six different pitchers were utilized by Behrend in the final five innings. They were not able to stop Pitt-Greensburg in their tracks as the Bobcats secured an impressive victory over Behrend. 

The split in the doubleheader resulted in Penn State Behrend with an overall record of 15-14 and 6-4 AMCC whereas Pitt-Greensburg had a record of 19-14 and 5-7 AMCC. The game was a great showcase of the talent within these teams and they certainly did not disappoint. While Penn State Behrend may have not achieved a clean sweep of the doubleheader, their impressive performance in the first game proves they have what it takes to compete at a high level. Meanwhile, Pitt-Greensburg’s strong comeback in the second game showcased their resilience and determination. Both teams have a promising future ahead as they continue to battle it out in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Fans will be eagerly awaiting their next showdown on the diamond.
