There is nothing I love more than discovering new music and up-and-coming artists.

The band hey, nothing is composed of two Atlanta highschoolers, Tyler and Harlow, and has been my latest obsession. Meeting for the first time six years ago, the immediate best friends have been crafting their earworm indie-folk since.

This indie-folk band’s music can range from somber to upbeat as they keep their audience listening.

I discovered hey, nothing on TikTok a few months ago and have listened to “Party Brain” and “Too Drunk to Drive” too many times to count. Although I only recently started listening to their music, they released music starting back in 2021, with their most popular song “i haunt your dreams” coming out last October. The band’s “i haunt your dreams” currently sits at an impressive almost 1.8 million streams on Spotify. My two favorites, “Party Brain” and “Too Drunk to Drive,” both sit at around 500,000 streams, of which I most likely contributed hundreds.

Very recently, hey, nothing released yet another single, “Like a Brother.” This song, which is their newest, came out on March 3. Already dubbed by some as their greatest song so far, “Like a Brother” takes on a more gentle and somber tone. The mixture of gentle acoustic guitar and Harlow’s voice makes it a perfect rainy-day song.

I enjoy the way that “Like a Brother” contrasts so heavily with the mood of “Too Drunk To Drive,” which ironically sets the perfect tone for a fast car ride with the windows down. It is really interesting to see how they can be flexible with the genre of music they are working with and make songs that, in my opinion, can appeal to anyone regardless of their mood. I truly believe that many people are bound to like at least one of the handful of songs currently produced by hey, nothing.

While hey, nothing only has five songs out currently, there are more in the works and it is safe to say that I will be closely tuned in to those releases as well. I now listen to four of their songs almost religiously and cannot wait to see what else they will come up with in the future.

If you listen and like what you hear, let me know! If you do not, then give me better song recommendations.
