On Feb. 23, Netflix released its third season of the increasingly popular show, “Outer Banks.”  Coming back with even more addicting content, the Pogues take on a whole new level of treasure hunting and excitement.  The action and adventure continue with the addition of some new characters, who play a key role in the show.

The season begins with the valorous Pogues stranded on an island which they claimed as their own, naming it Poguelandia.  This isolation does not last long into the first episode, as the group is quickly rescued by a so-called fisherman.  Following this rescue, the teens are then thrown back into another dangerous treasure hunting adventure.

The quest of El Dorado, the ancient Golden City, is the whole premise of the third season.  This is the third and final part of the hunt they have been on since the beginning of the show, but this time the competition is much more intense.  The treasure hunting plotline that this show holds does get repetitive as the seasons progress, and with all that goes on in the third season it can be hard to follow along.

Although the show brings back a lot of old characters, they introduced some new important ones as well.  One of the new characters that is introduced during this season is the new antagonist of the show named Carlos Singh, who is played by the actor Andy McQueen.

Singh is also on a mission to discover a treasure that he believes is his destiny to find.  This causes much conflict between him, his people, and the Pogues throughout much of the season.

Another character they bring into the show is John B’s lost father, Big John, who plays a key role in this season.  The show focused a lot on the father and son duo between John B and Big John previously, with Big John’s obsession to find the lost treasure having been relevant since the beginning.

I was slightly disappointed with how John B and his father split from the rest of the group for the majority of the season, and was also irritated by the fact that Big John was not a very likable character.  There were times where I often questioned where his morals stood as he continually put his son and others at risk for the gold.  I was hoping for a better relationship between the two of them, considering the time they spent apart during the entirety of the show.

One of my favorite parts of the season was the new relationships that formed, more specifically the relationships between Pope, Cleao, JJ and Kiara.  From the very beginning of this show I was rooting for JJ and Kiara and with this third season it finally began to blossom into something more than just a friendship.

Then with Pope and Cleo, as soon as Cleo came into the show I was hoping for something to happen between her and Pope, and my wish came true.  However, with all the chaos and treasure hunting going on in the show, these relationships did not have a lot of time to progress much so I am hoping for more detail in the next season.

The show has been confirmed by Netflix to continue with a fourth season and I am very curious to see if they are going to add any new and exciting aspects to the next season.  I am hoping they will change it up a bit and not be as repetitive as the previous seasons have been with the storyline.

Overall, I felt like the third season was pretty good, but it could have been a little less repetitive and spent more time focused more on some of the relationships. There is always room for improvement with the upcoming season, so we will have to wait and see what happens next
