Hello Beacon readers,

My name is Samhita Chitturi or, as I publish my creative works under, Samhi C.

On Feb. 18, 2023, I released my first song on my YouTube music channel “HitaRocks! by Samhi C.” which can be found at www.youtube.com/HitaRocksBySamhiC. “Naa Anuragam,” my first completed song, is written in Telugu. It is the easiest song I have ever written. Though not easy as in effortless, but rather easy as in “I do not think any lyrics I have ever written has been more honest in my life.”

The lyrics came together over a timeframe of about a week, starting as small notes in my journal and phone notes app, then as completed verses in a folder in my Google Drive dedicated to songwriting. After this, in order to create the instrumental track, I used SoundTrap, an app/website that allows you to take pre-recorded and free-to-use instrumental loops and overlay them with each other to create new sounds. I spent the entirety of a Friday night playing with different tracks until I finally heard the beats and rhythms that felt right and worked well with the lyrics. I used different combinations of the following four tracks:

  • Oaks – Electric Guitar 12 [Em]
  • Dark Chi – Piano Melody 03 [Em]
  • Vertigo – Luv Kit [Kick & Snare] 01
  • Electric Guitar – Lock 1 [Em]

After I got the instrumentals done, I recorded my vocals directly in SoundTrap thus completing the song.

Next came video editing.

To accompany the song is an image that I created myself, titled the same. My YouTube video features this image between the lyric slides, each time with a different color scheme. I edited the image and its variations in my phone photo gallery app then the lyrics slides in Google Drawing.

To put everything together, I used Canva. I had no clue that you could even use Canva to create videos but apparently you can and it is free and the easiest video editing software I have ever used. Then I uploaded the finished product to YouTube and that was that.

It was amazing. There is something about creating that never gets old. Every single time you complete one step of a project propelling you into the next there is this rush of excitement, just as much as there is a bittersweet moment of realizing you are done.

I do hope all of you, when you have a spare moment between classes or when you feel like you need something to listen to, or maybe while doing homework, chores, or eating breakfast give “Naa Anuragam” a listen.

Also, check out the post “Naa Anuragam” on my blog MidnightMochaLatte.wordpress.com that offers a word-by-word Telugu to English translation as well as a self-written commentary and analysis on the meaning of the song and my connection to it.

Thank you in advance, happy listening, and have an amazing week PSU Behrend!
