Are you looking for a unique, delicious, cheap meal that will satisfy every person in your group’s breakfast cravings? The Original Breakfast Place has great cheap breakfast and a homey dinner atmosphere that makes for an enjoyable experience.

The Original Breakfast Place, or OBP as many have taken to calling it, is located at 2340 E 38th Street, and is open every day of the week except for Wednesdays. Their weekday hours are from 6:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and on the weekend they extend their closing time until 2:00 p.m.

One of the best parts about OBP for Behrend students is that it is only a 5 minutes drive from campus, and is less than three miles away.

When you first enter the restaurant, you will notice immediately the bustling morning atmosphere. There is a huge board of weekly specials posted above your view as you wait to be seated.

The restaurant has a lot of seating for its size, and although there may be a line there is never an unreasonably long wait. When you are done with your meal, you pay at the counter up front, reinforcing the diner atmosphere you feel upon entering the place.

Personally, I could not help myself from ordering off the weekly specials menu, which allowed me to order stuffed french toast that was filled with a strawberry cream. This item is not typically on the menu, but if it is featured when you are there I recommend checking it out.

This restaurant does, however, have a diverse breakfast menu that should include something for everyone.

For those who prefer a simple breakfast, there are plenty of options to simply order eggs and toast or homefries. They also have several simple omelets that are all priced at about five dollars.

The most expensive thing on their menu is the specialty omelets, and they come so stuffed that it genuinely makes sense. The specialty omelets are all priced around nine dollars, are studded with meats, cheeses, and veggies, and all come with toast or home fries.

The menu also includes standard hotcakes as well as several delicious and well-valued breakfast sandwiches.

Although this is not personally to my taste, the menu also includes a selection of Greek dogs, burgers, and fries as their ‘breakfast muchines.’ The Greek food, which is typically coated with cheese with a thin chili, is a food staple in Erie.

The restaurant is also incredibly nice about substitutions and allows any meat to be substituted for turkey sausage or egg beaters instead.

The atmosphere at OBP is always lively, and overall it is something worth checking out, especially for the broke college student who wants a cheap delicious breakfast after a long Friday night.
