Student Government Association members met for their general meeting on Oct. 6 and recognized four students for their induction as senators.
The board acknowledged the following students for being selected to serve as Student Government senators: Nathan Murarik and Garret Watson, Upperclassman; Zane Lewis and Anisha Tiwari, Freshman. Their term lasts until the end of the 2023 school year.
Board members approved Amendment Proposal S.R. 22-23.01. The amendment, which modified the organization’s constitution, officially delegates the treasurer as the convener for SGA budget meetings.
SGA President Matthew Strup said that the change to the constitution is overdue.
“Over the years, the responsibility was handed over to the treasurer. This amendment just made it official,” Strup said.
In other business, board members tabled the French and Francophone Club Proposal. Agenda items may be tabled to a future meeting to allow board members to review any relevant documentation prior to a vote.
Strup said that Housing and Food Services Director Michael Lindner will be attending an SGA meeting in the near future.
“Mike and a group of students get together typically once a month,” Strup explained. “We talk about food related issues on campus, such as the availability of vegetarian and vegan options.”
Strup said that the first meeting with Lindner has not yet occurred this semester. He is unsure when it will be scheduled.
“We’re just waiting for him to come to a meeting at this point,” Strup said.
University Faculty Senate Representative Mitchel Ray raised a concern regarding the functionality of the fire alarms in Ohio Hall.
“So, it has been brough to my attention that the fire alarm in Ohio went off this past weekend, and there were a lot of people that didn’t realize the noise was a fire alarm,” Ray said.
Strup advised the issue be brought up to a pertinent faculty member.
“I don’t know my fire alarm etiquette, but you could bring it up to Mike Lindner,” Strup said.
Board members will be holding an in-house election for the organization’s leadership vacancies at their meeting on Oct. 13. The voting, which is limited to SGA members, follows each election cycle to fill remaining vacancies.
The minutes from the previous meeting were not available to be voted on.
SGA’s next general meeting will be on Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in Reed 114.
