In true Ryan Reynolds fashion, he shocked Deadpool fans last week, announcing that “Deadpool 3” will finally release in 2024. In perhaps even more shocking news, Hugh Jackman is set to co-star with Ryan Reynolds in the movie, going back on his word to “hang up his claws” after his previous final appearance as Wolverine in 2017’s “Logan.”

“I couldn’t be more excited. I mean, especially to do it this way. Ultimately, I get to work with some of my closest friends in the world and that doesn’t happen every day working in this business,” Ryan Reynolds stated in an interview with Forbes. “I’m thrilled and I’ve been sitting on those couple teasers for a few weeks now. It’s one of those moments where you’re hitting send or a tweet or a post – your hand is shaking when you’re messing with the zeitgeist in a way like that.”

Deadpool fans have been nervous ever since Disney purchased Fox in 2019. It was originally controversial whether Deadpool would still be an incorporated MCU character after Disney first acquired the studio, but Deadpool 1 and 2 were the first R-rated films to be available for viewing on the beloved streaming platform. “Logan” was also added to Disney+ at the same time, and has been available for streaming since July 22, 2022.

“Deadpool 3” is set to be directed by Shawn Levy, following the script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Rhett Reese has released a statement teasing that, “The MCU is an amazing sandbox to play in. We’ll throw lots of cliches as well because we’re giving it 110 percent man or taking it one day at a time…We can’t divulge details but suffice it to say that when Ryan and Paul and I are on Zoom together, we are cackling. So, it’s pretty fun.”

Deadpool fans have been a huge part of the franchise since the beginning. Even Ryan Reynolds has acknowledged this, stating that “I think audiences really genuinely appreciate having some authorship over stories that are being told and why stories are being told. I for one can say Deadpool 1 never would’ve been made if it wasn’t for the outpouring of demand from audiences across all social media platforms and that’s quite legitimately what got the movie greenlighted.”
