Russia’s Investigative Committee has identified the gunman who opened fire on a school in Central Russia, leaving 24 wounded and 15 dead on Monday September 26. The shooter was identified as Artyom Kazantesev, a 34-year-old man who had graduated from the same school he opened fire on.

The man was reported as wearing a black t-shirt with “Nazi symbols” but no details about his motives have been released yet. The Committee has also stated that 15 people including 11 children were killed in the shooting. A total of 24 other people, including 11 children, were also wounded during the attack.

The shooting occurred at school number 88 in Izhevsk, a city 600 miles east of Moscow. A spokesman for the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov described the shooting as “a terrorist attack,” and stated that President Vladamir Putin has given all of the necessary orders to relevant authorities.

“President Putin deeply mourns deaths of people and children in school, where a terrorist act took place,” Peskov said to reporters Monday after the shooting occurred.

The Governor of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov stated that the gunman was a registered patient at a psychiatric facility, and that he killed himself following the attack.  Russia’s National Guard stated that the guns used in the shooting were not registered with authorities, and were non-lethal handguns adapted in order to fire real bullets.
