The Learning Resource Center, or the LRC, is an important resource for students at Penn State Behrend. According to their website, “Whether students want to improve their GPA, study abroad, apply for fellowships and scholarships, or plan for graduate school, the LRC has the tools and experience to help.” They also provide a variety of resources to students, offering several different types of programming throughout the year.
One of the most commonly utilized aspects of the Learning Resource Center is its peer tutoring center. If you need tutoring in any of your classes or if you have an interest in being a tutor, visiting the LRC or their website is the first step. Subject tutoring is the most common, where students sign in to TutorTrac, select the class they are struggling with, and book a one-on-one conversation with a tutor in that subject. Guided study grounds, which meet regularly, and exam study groups, which meet before each exam in a course, are also offered through the LRC and can be viewed online.
Behrend also offers four different tutoring areas for drop-in hours, where no appointment is necessary. The Business and Engineering center is located in room 213 in the Burke Center, and the Engineering drop-in center is located in AMIC room 112. The math and science drop-in center is located in Roche Hall on the second floor. Also, the writing drop-in center is located on the third floor of the Liley Library in room 203. Drop-in hours vary occasionally but are posted on the LRC Instagram @psbehrendlrc
Another service the LRC offers study abroad information sessions, which are typically held within the Lilley Library. Also, studying abroad does not always mean spending an entire semester across seas. Oftentimes, the amount of time you wish to spend abroad is dependent on the trip you choose, Behrend offers alternative fall and spring breaks, short-term study-abroad, and semester-long ones. Attend an information session in the Library and find out if it is a good fit for you.
The LRC will also hold several information sessions throughout the year addressing questions and scholarships and grants. Fellowship applications are also something the LRC handles and could assist with.
For any other information contact the LRC by email at bdlrc@psu.edu or by calling 814-898-6140. For tutoring-specific questions use the email bdtutor@psu.edu or visit TutorTrac to make an appointment.
