On April 2, Penn State Behrend held their Spring open house in-person. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Behrend has not been able to provide potential incoming students with an in-person experience for open house. Now, since masking and social distancing mandates have been removed, Behrend was able to hold this open house in-person, allowing potential future Behrend students to experience the campus and meet current students.

Normally, the spring open house caters to junior high school students who are looking at potential universities. This year, the open house had a wide variety of visitors. Junior and senior high school students were invited as well as transfer students from other universities.

The open house was a success with somewhere near 700 potential students and their families attending.

Visitors were given tours around campus, starting in the Reed Union Building and ending in Kochel. They were shown all campus buildings including the science building and the engineering building.

Potential students were also able to talk to multiple representatives from their potential school as well as students within that school. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences was set up in the bottom of Kochel ready to answer any questions.

HSS also held an informative presentation which was hosted by Dr. Melanie Hetzel-Riggin. After that, students from HSS were put on a panel to have a discussion with future students and answer any questions they may have had.

All in all, Penn State Behrend’s spring open house was a success.
