I had originally found this series through BookTok without even looking for a book to read. Sarah Lampkin was promoting her series and it just sounded like something I would like. She brought up how the first book was free if it was bought through Amazon Kindle, so I plugged it in and bought it within five minutes of only hearing what it was about for maybe 30 seconds.

“To Dream is to Die” is the first book in the four-book Dead Dreamer series. Each book follows a different year in college for Dead Dreamer, Breanna Whit. The book shares bits and pieces of how she became a Dead Dreamer in the first place. However, no one knows her secret of what happens when she goes to sleep except for her one friend back home, Rae, but everything changes in college, right?

“To Wake the Dead,” as Breanna slides between the very fine line between the living and the dead, she has an even harder time in just her second year of college. Now college is hard, but when your own soul is trying to kill you, well things get interesting. With the battlefield set, Brenna must decide if she wants to continue hiding or reveal herself to the enemy.

“To Reap the Spirit,” somehow Brenna has made it to junior year. She fought for everything she believes in, but something went wrong in the process. New pieces are joining the battlefield, and with Breann’s secret revealed, how long can she survive for senior year?

“To Fly the Raven,” so many friends and enemies are dead, the enemy is struggling to gain control, but no one is safe as long as the soul controls Breanna’s body. While trapped within her own body watching everything her soul is doing, Breanna learns more and more about her life, before the accident that made her a Dead Dreamer.

For a book written in a way that makes college actually sound like college, it’s surprising how relatable it is. Especially since Brenna is a communication major, however, she’s not really one on top of her workload like her roommate.
