The Learning Resource Center, or the LRC, is an important resource for students at Penn State Behrend. According to their website, “Whether students want to improve their GPA, study abroad, apply for fellowships and scholarships, or plan for graduate school, the LRC has the tools and experience to help”

Many programs are offered through the LRC with one of the most commonly utilized being peer tutoring. Peer tutors are available in almost every subject at Behrend and it is easy to book appointments online. In addition to peer tutoring, several other types of tutoring exist on campus. For example, there are exam prep sessions as well as study groups for those who learn better with others around. Available times can be seen and appointments can be made through TutorTrac, Behrends onlines tutoring appointment center. Tutoring is available

Behrend also has four different tutoring areas for drop-in houses, where no appointment is necessary. The Business and Engineering center is located in room 213 in the Burke Center, and the Engineering drop-in center is located in AMIC room 112. The math and science drop-in center is located in Roche Hall on the second floor. Also, the writing drop-in center is located on the third floor of the Liley Library in room 203. Drop-in hours vary occasionally but are posted on the LRC instagram @psbehrendlrc

Guided group studies meet on a regular basis, compared to exam prep sessions which only meet leading up to exams. There are currently guided study groups for the following courses: CHEM 110, PHYS 211, PHYS 212, PHYS 250. There are several courses that currently have exam prep sessions scheduled throughout the semester as well which include: BIOL 110, MATH 140, ACCTG 211. The dates for these prep sessions are all on the LRC website and can be viewed on TutorTrac as well.

The LRC also holds regular information sessions on studying abroad, often hosted upstairs in the Lilley Library. A semester abroad opens unique opportunities for students and allows them to emerge themselves in another culture, gaining valuable experience. Penn state has several short-term study abroad options which allow for college courses to be completed while enrolled in the study abroad program. These programs can range anywhere from ten days long to a full semester with opportunities available over course breaks as well. A second language is not required for several of the programs, but there is a minimum grade point average requirement of 2.5 and several programs require a 3.0 minimum.

The LRC also provides a variety of other resources to students including information about scholarships, fellowships and grants. The next general LRC scholarship information session will be held in Lilley Library in room 208 on March 1st.

For any other information contact the LRC by email at bdlrc@psu.edu or by calling 814-898-6140. For tutoring specific questions use the email bdtutor@psu.edu or visit TutorTrac to make an appointment.
