The U.S. women’s hockey team has been on a roll as of the past games. This past Sunday they faced off against the Switzerland women’s team, in which they destroyed them 8-0. After their matchup, Coach Joel Johnson had this to say, “You just kind of get that sense over the course of the day for whatever reason. It had nothing to do with the opponent. It had everything to do with us.” This win sets the national team to go up against their top rivals, Canada. At the time of the article, the game is still to be played, but the matchup sets the rest of the standings as the winner will be the top seed going into the quarterfinals. The United States won their matchup, but Canada did as well, beating Switzerland earlier 12-1. Talk about a tough break for the Switzerland national team. The long history of Canada vs. United States has a built-up intensity to it each time the team jumps on the ice. At the 2021 World Championships, Canada beat the U.S. 5-1 in the preliminary round, and in the final as well, but the matchup went to overtime. In this year’s Olympic Games, the United States is 3-0 in the first 3 games of the preliminary round, and Canada is also 3-0 in the first 3 games of the preliminary round. These two powerhouses will set the precedent for the rest of the Olympics, and all fans have to do is sit down and watch them go at it.
