In celebration of Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary, beloved character, Minnie Mouse, received a wardrobe change. Instead of her iconic white on red polka dot dress, she was restyled in a black on blue polka dot pantsuit. This design was not only for the anniversary, but also made to celebrate Women’s History Month that takes place during March, as she will be depicted in the suit throughout that time.
However, this new look has not come without controversy, as not everyone has received the new outfit well and are slightly blowing the whole thing out of proportion. Candance Owens in particular has had quite a few things to say on the matter. She has stated that she believes that the change was being used to distract the public from inflation and that they were trying to defy gender normative clothing.
I do not believe that Minnie Mouse’s outfit change was motivated by inflation or trying to defy gender norms, they were just giving her a new look for a big celebration, which Disney does all the time. They always give all the main characters a special new outfit for an anniversary or when something new debuts. This also is not the first time she has been shown wearing pants, as she wears them on Disney cruises.
Anyway, this will not be her new full time outfit as it was very, very well specified that it was just for the Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary and March for Women’s History Month.
While pantsuits have been commonly used to represent feminine power in the workforce, people need to stop blowing these types of things out of proportion. I mean, she is a cartoon mouse after all, and while she represents such a huge company like Disney, not every little change they do to her is motivated by some agenda. Changing her from a dress to a pantsuit for a month is not that big of a deal. There are far more important and urgent things going on in the world that need attention instead of this.
