Tutoring services at Penn State Behrend is a free resource for all students to utilize. Tutoring is offered through the Learning Resource Center at Behrend. Behrend prides itself on their peer tutoring program where students teach and help other students if they are having trouble in a class.

According to Behrend’s website, “In the last few years, tutors have provided an average of more than 6,300 tutoring sessions to their peers.” They also state that there are tutoring services for almost every subject taught on campus.

A few subjects that many students are primarily tutored in include math, writing, engineering and business. Math tutoring can cover courses through calculus II. Some peer tutors, depending on experience, can help with higher level math courses and physics.

Writing tutors can help students with several aspects of their writing. They can give editorial feedback and help with grammar and style. Several professors actually allow students to revise their paper that have turned in after visiting a tutor in the LRC.

Engineering tutors are primarily for first and second year courses, but some tutors can also help with higher level engineering courses.

Business tutoring is also available, and courses like economics and accounting can be tutored as well.

There are also tutoring services available for foreign languages and just about every other course on campus.

To schedule an appointment and see all tutoring services go to TutorTrac online. TutorTrac is a space that allows for students to find the locations and times of drop in hours. It is also where students go to access their tutoring sessions that are over Zoom and to book individual tutoring appointments for subject tutoring.

Tutors are responsible for assisting students with challenging course content. Every tutor is not expected to know everything, as they are only expected to help students do their best.

Some benefits to becoming a tutor at Behrend include:

  •  review and mastery of previous coursework
  • improved communication and interpersonal skills
  • opportunity to develop relationships with instructors and campus staff
  • sense of accomplishment from helping others
  • convenience of working on campus
  • the ability to create a work schedule based on classes and utilization of work study grant, if applicable

  • a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • at least second semester standing or higher
  • grade of A or A- in the course you want to tutor
