The Lion’s Pantry is an organization here on campus that is dedicated to providing hygiene products and food items for those among the Behrend community who need a little assistance during these hard times. This is an organization that helps Behrend students get the help that they need but might be too afraid to directly ask for. The Lion’s Pantry is available both to those who commute and those who are living on campus.
The Lion’s Pantry’s mission statement is as follows, “We are committed to providing supplemental nutrition and hygiene items (including period products) to all Penn State Behrend students”, and can be found on their website. The website allows for students to get additional information about how to attain products and help they may need in a discreet way.
The Lion’s Pantry updates its hours every semester. For the Spring Semester 2022, they are as follows: all orders must be placed by 1p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the orders will be ready by 8am on the following days. This will give students an opportunity to place orders and get them ready in a timely manner and allow students to have options, so the products can be picked up at the student’s convenience.
The Lion’s Pantry has worked on becoming more accessible to students and to do so has implemented two ways to order products. First, by going to the Lion’s Pantry website and filling out an order form and second, by going to the Penn State Go app and finding the Lion’s Pantry icon, and filling out the order form.
In order to make sure that every student is getting the assistance they need without having their name broadcasted or being afraid to ask for help, The Lion’s Pantry has made their services completely anonymous. Once the orders are completed, they will be placed in a designated spot to be picked up. The pick-up area is located in the lower level of the Smith Chapel, Penn State Behrend, The Smith Chapel, 4701 College Dr.,Erie, PA 16563. The pick up hours are year round Monday- Friday from 8a.m. to 5p.m.
The order form is incredibly easy to fill out, it requires your student ID numbers, and it will ask you a series of questions to complete your order. Some of these questions consist of “what canned products are you in need of? What pasta/ rice products are you in need of? And what breakfast products are you in need of?” This quick and easy form gives students their choice of products, so they can pick up good and nutritious food that fits their taste and lifestyle.
If any clubs or students are interested in donating to the Lion’s Pantry, please visit their website and scroll to the bottom. There will be a section that gives information as to how a student or club can donate to this campus organization. The Lion’s Pantry has set up a wishlist displayed in the Galley of their most popular items and what they are in need of at the moment.
A great way of giving back to your Behrend community and using that leftover meal plan money is by going to the Galley and purchasing items off of that list for the Lion’s Pantry.
Clubs are also welcome to work with the Student Leadership and Involvement office so they may have money transferred from their account into the Lion’s Pantry’s account seamlessly.
