Last Wednesday, January 19th was the spring semester club showcase at Penn State Behrend. The showcase, which is usually held outside, was moved inside due to inclement weather. Despite this, the showcase still featured many different clubs for Penn State students to join and provided a ton of information to students searching to be more involved on campus. The event lasted from twelve in the afternoon to three, and many students showed up to learn more about Penn State Behrend’s 140 different clubs.
Some of the clubs featured at the event included clubs for specific majors, like the International Business club and the Plastics and Polymer Engineering clubs. Major specific clubs are a great way for students to meet people with the same major and build connections within the industry. They also provide an opportunity for students to learn more about their career field in a fun setting outside of school.
For those interested in joining a fraternity and sorority, many social and professional fraternities and sororities were in attendance. An example being Delta Sigma Pi. Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity for business students and is a great way for students to build connections with fellow business students and talk to many experienced business leaders. For those majoring in a STEM field, there is also the Triangle Fraternity. The Triangle Fraternity is a social fraternity for STEM majors with a focus on service. Several other clubs that focus on Greek life exist on campus, running from major based to service centered organizations.
There were also plenty of clubs dedicated to expanding Penn State students’ cultural knowledge at Behrend in attendance at the showcase. A couple examples were the Cultural Cooking Club and the South Asian Student Organization.
At Penn State, there is probably a club for any and every interest. Some clubs include the Chess club, College Republicans, Astronomy Club, Cru, and more. Joining a club can be a great opportunity, which is why I recommend everyone join at least one club on campus. If you are looking for a club to join you can always join the Behrend Beacon, which welcomes everyone to come and write! Also, all student clubs can be found on BehrendSync which provide the contract information for club Presidents and makes it easy to reach out!
