It’s true, Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian are dating. This simple fact is one that set the internet on fire. Speculation about exactly when these two got together varies, but if I were to guess I would say that it started after Kardashian hosted SNL earlier this year. She and Davidson played the parts of Jasmine and Aladdin in a skit about the Disney movie, and I assume this is where the two really hit it off and found their connection. 

 I’ve seen a lot of discussion online surrounding Davidson’s dating life, and the fact that he has dated not one, but two other high profile celebrities. The first and more famously, was Ariana Grande. Their relationship, and subsequent engagement, was the focus of many, many media outlets. 

For me, the most surprising aspect of this news is that Davidson is the first man Kardashian has dated since she split with Kanye West. Davidson seems like such a big departure from West, but I guess that it’s a sign that she has understandably moved on from the divorce. 

However, some of the discourse I’ve seen online has been really rude toward Davidson, and I don’t think it’s warranted. People are coming after his looks, his mental state, his health and his past relationships. Many people are asking questions like, how did Davidson “bag Kim”? To me, this is really insensitive, and it also implies that, for one reason or another, whether it be looks or something else, Davidson is not worthy of Kardashian. It also implies that it is a man’s job to “bag” women, which objectifies them, and is very misogynistic. 

The hyper-focus on celebrities’ dating lives is something that seems unhealthy to me. Why is there so much focus on the love lives of celebrities? Why is it everyone’s business who-dates-who? Why does the public and the media get to judge couples just because they’re celebrities? They should be allowed to date whoever they want, without judgement, assuming the people they date aren’t awful people with skewed morals. 

As long as all parties in it are happy and healthy, why does it matter who’s in the relationship? 

So yeah, Kardashian and Davidson are dating. So what?
