Hello readers, my name is Spencer Finley; I am one of the two News Editors at the Behrend Beacon and a first-year political science major. Aside from working as an editor at the Beacon, I am also a member of the College Democrats. After I graduate from Behrend, I hope to earn a law degree and get a job as either a constitutional lawyer or a civil rights lawyer. Eventually, my ambition is to run for Congress or even the Presidency. I like to fill my spare time with a variety of activities. I am an avid reader; I am currently reading three books- they are International Relations Between the Two World Wars by E.H. Carr, Changing Patterns of Voting in the Northern United States: Electoral realignment, 1952-1996 by Robert Speel, and Ready-Made Democracy: A History of Men’s Dress in the American Republic, 1760-1860 by Michael Zakim. I recently finished reading a 3-volume biography of the Romantic-era virtuoso pianist and compose Franz Liszt by Alan Walker, and Malcom Gladwell’s fascinating study of successful and influential people, Outliers: The Story of Success. In addition to reading, I also play the piano in my spare time. I am currently about to finish learning Franz Liszt’s sixth Hungarian Rhapsody, which I have found to be extremely challenging but highly rewarding. Aside from reading and playing the piano, I enjoy baking, travelling, and hiking. I also enjoy sitting down and having rational, dispassionate debates about the most important issues of the day, political or otherwise. I also love to write- nothing is more enjoyable to me than sitting down, coming up with a topic to write about, doing in-depth research on that subject, and writing my educated thoughts on that topic.

We are the newspaper for the Penn State Behrend campus, serving the students, administration, faculty, staff, and visitors of our university.
Our goal is to shed light on important issues, share the accomplishments of Behrend and Penn State as a whole, and to build connections between writers, editors, and readers.
