When it comes to mental health, some may forget to take care of themselves first. They might forget to do important things, like attending doctor’s appointments, eating, showering, et cetera. Mental health is tough, but you are tougher.

The first step you should take to help yourself is to reach out to someone you trust and talk to them about what’s going on. If you think it may be more difficult talking to a friend or family member, Penn State Behrend has certified personal counselors located in Reed 1 who would be more than happy to help you.

Sometimes asking for help can be difficult, especially when you do not know who to reach out to, but after reaching out for help. It is important to know that when it comes to mental health, you should put yourself first, it’s the only way to receive help.

Depending on individual circumstances, if you take medication but haven’t taken them in a while, maybe contact your doctor to know if you can start where you were or need to start on a lower dose.

According to mentalhealth.org some ways to help your mental health include, talking about it, keeping active, eating well, and many more.

PSB also has an app called LionHELP. The app can help students recognize their stress, respond to crisis situations regarding mental health, and refer them to the right people, as well as various resources on and off-campus. However, while it does connect students to those who can help with various situations surrounding mental health, LionHELP is not a diagnostic tool.
