Noodle the Pug became a Tiktok sensation when his owner Jonathan Graziano began to make videos on Tiktok of the pug waking up in the morning. The videos were all about whether the pug stood up or laid back down when the owner picked him up. In other words, did the dog have “bones” or “no bones.”
People quickly began to base their day around the results of these videos. Some created songs about the pug, other’s created humorous videos. Almost everyone on Tiktok knows who Noodle the Pug is, a lot of viewers letting it decide their day. The famous quote from Graziano was, in his words, “no hard pants on a no bones day.” Unlike what you might think though, no bones doesn’t really mean it would be a good day, but rather whether or not you should take a risk or instead play it safe.
Although it had a mostly positive response, many people also did not like the trend. Rolling Stone wrote an article about how Noodles the Pug was “officially canceled.”
“Many have argued that Noodle serves as a welcome distraction from the general feelings of malaise and burnout currently plaguing the nation post-pandemic,” EJ Dickson wrote.
They also quoted Britrant Spanoa, “It’s definitely getting into the cheugy side of the internet… you can tell there’s gonna be Etsy shops that say ‘Bones Day’ or ‘No Bones Day’ on mugs.” And though the article was short, the conversation was the opposite.
Graziano actually made a video about the article. “I did think if we were going to get cancelled it would have been for two reasons,” he said in the video, “one because someone either uncovered my tv watch history, or two someone finally uncovered noodles numerous crimes at war. But it turns out because we’re cheugy.”
For anyone who doesn’t know, cheugy is a slang term for something cringy, out of date, or out of style. Don’t worry if you didn’t know, neither does Graziano. He goes on to say, “…I had to look it up, but then I looked it up, and then it said it’s uncool and you’re trying too hard, and then I realized I’m 30 on Tiktok and like that totally fits the bill.”
Regardless of whether or not something is cheugy, that doesn’t automatically mean that you’re cancelled and I think Rolling Stone needs to read up on Gen Z vocabulary and slang. In fact, Noodle the Pug isn’t truly canceled. If you look at the comments under that video, all the comments insist that Rolling Stone has no idea what they’re talking about.
“How can someone hate on noodle [laughing emoji]” someone commented. “Noodles is NOT cancelled. But I think this is how you know you made it lolol,” “27 and have no idea what that means and just now learned what “Cheugy” means. I’ll continue to come back and see if it’s a bones day or not [shrugging emoji],” “who TF does EJ Dickson think they are?? Noodles is a king. You can’t cancel joy.” “corrected: rolling stone is canceled.” “NOT ROLLING STONE BEING CHEUGY CALLING YOU CHEUGY LMAOO”
The comments go on and on but no one seems to agree with the Rolling Stone which brings me to the conclusion that Noodles the Pug is not truly canceled. I think it can be agreed that Rolling Stone needs to get their ducks in a row. Who doesn’t love a fortune telling Pug?
