Hey Behrend! My name is Dan Sanford, and I am a senior communication major. I have been a writer for the Beacon since at least my sophomore year, and I have been editing the sports section since January 2021.

The Beacon was one of the very first things I became involved with on campus. While I was never especially athletic myself, I found the campus paper was a great place to show my passion for team sports, especially ice hockey and football. I am a massive fan of everything Pittsburgh (well, except the Panthers, of course), and I best enjoy writing about the Steelers or Penguins.

Around the time I joined the Beacon, I also joined BVZ, Behrend’s own radio station. I run a weekly radio block from 2-3 p.m. on Monday afternoons called Alternative Rocks!, where I play anything under the sun that can remotely be considered “alternative” music (though I also enjoy a lot of heavy metal). As time went on, these two clubs helped me realize that the field of communications was for me. I want to graduate and secure a job doing something which makes use of my skills in writing and speaking, which I share regularly with these two organizations on campus.

In addition, some of you may know me as an avid video gamer and Magic: the Gathering player. I am a member of the Behrend Gaming Club (BGC) and am a member of Behrend’s new eSports club as a Valorant player.

I’m glad to write for you guys! WE ARE!
