Women’s Volleyball:

Over the last week, the women’s volleyball team had matches versus Alfred State, Hiram, and Wooster. The Lions defeated Alfred State in three sets winning 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-16. With Behrend’s victory, the snapped an 11 game winning streak for the Alfred State Pioneers and also gave them their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, or the AMCC loss of the season. Some standout performances came off the backs of Dani Kosslow, who registered 30 assists in the match, and Brooke Joncas, who served up a storm versus the Pioneers registering a match-high five aces. Joncas also had 11 kills on 17 total attacks and contributed eight digs as well.

The Lions then traveled to Wooster, Ohio on Saturday to play a few non-conference matches. There, they split games defeating Hiram with a score of 3-0 with the score being 25-16, 25-22, and 25-22 in the 3 rounds played, and a loss to Wooster losing 3-0 by a score of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-20. Maddie Clapper had a team-high 20 digs on the day while Dani Kosslow added five aces. With the help from those aces, Kosslow moved into fourth place on Behrend’s all-time list. In the second match against Wooster, the Lions had their 14-match win streak snapped with their defeat. 

 

Men’s Soccer:

 

The Behrend men’s soccer team held a home match against the Hilbert Hawks on Saturday. The Lions were able to secure a victory by a score of 4-0 on Senior Day. It is worth noting that the first two shots on goal for Behrend were able to be scored as Matthew Romesberg Jr. started the Lions off strong with a goal within the first four minutes. Cameron Eckberg was able to build on this momentum as he scored the Lion’s second goal about a minute following thanks to Logan Brisnky’s great pass. Behrend has a winning streak of 10 games following Saturday’s win.

 

Women’s Soccer:

 

The women’s soccer team was able to defeat Hilbert by a score of four to zero and secured the number one overall seed for the upcoming Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Playoffs, thus giving them a first round bye in the tournament. The Lions have a season record of 16-1 winning all of it’s AMCC matchups on the year, giving them the title of regular-season champions. Goals were scored by Payton Porter, Trinity Prestash, Brenna McGuire, and Bella Sestito. With the win, Behrend had it’s seventh straight shutout where they did so with dominance as they prevented Hilbert from even shooting the ball successfully.
