After recent events involving an Edinboro University student, the staff of the Behrend Beacon believes students should know how to report to Penn State Behrend’s University Police and Public Safety, UPPS.

According to Behrend’s website, UPPS is responsible for the protection of and service to the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Penn State Behrend. In addition, the department is charged with the protection of property, the maintenance of order, and the enforcement of laws of Pennsylvania and the regulations of Pennsylvania State University. The department has full law enforcement authority and is trained to respond to certain emergency medical situations.

Students can report to UPPS directly or through the Behrend website at https://www.police.psu.edu/university-police-records through quick links students can sign up for alerts as well as see various links to resources they have created.

There is a quick link for reporting a crime, https://www.police.psu.edu/report-crime The form can include your name or remain anonymous. The form requests students to “provide information on the suspect (ie. name, address, physical description), dates and time of the crime, etc. Explain how you know the crime occurred. Do you know if the crime has already been reported?”

It continues and asks students to “provide as much detail as you can. An investigator would like to contact you for a follow-up on the information you provide. You may remain anonymous, but it will aid the investigator if they could discuss the information in more detail.”

If a student needs to contact campus police, officers are on-duty 24/7 at 814-898-6101, UPPS has also been relocated since Erie Hall is being renovated. They can now be found at the Logan Carriage House 4213 Station Road, Erie, PA 16563.
