Saturday Night Live recently announced their 47th season which is to premier on October 2nd 2021. This sketch comedy show which is often referred to as late night television, has been on the air since 1975. Creator Lorne Michaels debuted season one on NBC on October 11th with George Carlin as the host. With this premier, the show took off and has been popular among the masses ever since.
Last season – season 46 – of SNL, had viewers speculating about the return of long-time cast members like Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson, and Cecily Strong. During the pandemic, SNL was undoubtedly facing hardships and the cast members gave a speech during one of the last episodes. They explained the struggles they had while producing the series and made it into what seemed like a goodbye speech, or at least that is what some took it as. Fortunately, these beloved cast members did not leave the show like some had presumed but are back for the 47th season and are on the official cast lineup of SNL.
As of right now, many of these comedians and actors are staying on the show, and it is rumored that creator Lorne Michaels is asking the well-known cast members to stay on until SNL’s landmark 50th season. It has also been reported that Michaels is planning on creating an environment that will allow cast members to stay on while also pursuing other projects outside of the show, but this is speculation.
The cast lineup for season 47 of SNL is as follows: Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Colin Jost, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Ego Nwodim, Chris Redd, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, Melissa Villaseñor, and Bowen Yang. The featured players in this year’s season includes Andrew Dismukes, Lauren Holt, and Punkie Johnson.
The debut episode of SNL, which is again on October 2nd, will be hosted by actor Owen Wilson with musical guest star, Kacey Musgraves. This year’s opener is highly anticipated with six-time Grammy award winner Kacey Musgraves performing. The host Owen Wilson is no disappointment either. He appeared in films like The French Dispatch, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Midnight in Paris, along with many others.
But the premier of the season is not the only episode to look forward to. The next four show’s lineups were released as well. On October 9th, Kim Kardashian West will be hosting and the musical guest for that night is Halsey. The next two following Saturday’s have renown actors Rami Malek and Jason Sudeikis as hosts. Malek is hosting on the 16th with musical guest Young Thug, and Jason Sudeikis will host on the 23rd and Brandi Carlile will be the live music.
Be on the lookout for season 47 of Saturday Night Live, beginning on October 2nd.
