While I had written about originally being summoned to jury duty for September 27th, I had actually forgotten about it until the Wednesday before. As I had entirely forgotten about calling the courthouse, I did not actually end up calling and talking to someone until Thursday.
When I first called around 9 a.m. on September 23rd, I was told to send an email of my school schedule, which I did immediately. By 4 p.m. after not hearing anything back from that email address, I called once again. This time, I was told the email I had sent my schedule to was empty, so I was given a second email to send my schedule to.
Because I forgot to call, an undue amount of stress was put onto me over the anxiety of missing my classes on Monday, as well as the odds of missing tests on Tuesday.
As a college student, it’s hard to make up classes and grades when you miss only a day, but missing a whole week or even a few days here and there… It just makes it even more stressful.
Well after calling on Friday, September 24th after 5 p.m. the automated voice told me “Your request for deferment from jury duty has been granted. You do not need to report for the date on your paperwork and you do not need to call back.”
The flood of relief was great. However, I still believe that if they had looked at my original jury duty paperwork, they would have noticed that I said my occupation was “Student” at “Penn State Behrend.” That would have saved a lot of time and stress.
