Halloween is not just for kids, it’s for everyone. It is the one day of the year when no one judges people for dressing up and being someone or something they’re not. Also, it’s the one time of the year when you can decorate your house with spooky decorations.
Who can really say they don’t like Halloween? Everyone has dressed up and asked neighbors and strangers for tricks or treats until they’re “too old to still be dressing up.”
I don’t support that theory. The person saying that has decorated their house and front lawn for Halloween and tells a teenager that they’re too old for trick or treating when they too have spent too much money on Halloween.
When I was younger, there was a time when barely anyone my own age knew what Beetlejuice or Hocus Pocus was. Now, when I walk into Spirit Halloween they finally have Halloween costumes for them, just not in my size. Somehow, Halloween movies that weren’t popular are now super popular because parents educated their children on good movies.
In reality, Halloween is the only time I can watch good horror movies because it’s “weird” to watch Friday the 13th around Christmas or in the middle of summer. Good horror movies don’t just come out in January or June, many Hollywood directors know it won’t receive the best box office release unless it’s closer to October.
October and Halloween also support spooky make-up looks that most people probably wouldn’t do any other time of the year, because who really wants to walk around with fake blood on their body or in an all-out mermaid look? No one wants to be made fun of for looking like a walking Halloween costume.
Fall has always been my favorite time of the year which is probably why Halloween became one of my favorite holidays as well. There’s nothing better than seeing leaves change colors and drinking pumpkin spiced coffees while carving up pumpkins from Mason Farms or Port Farms.
No matter how old you are, Halloween should have no age limit for dressing up and asking for free candy. I will always give out candy to the 16-year-old trick or treater dressed as Spiderman, because after high school, life’s rough; let kids be kids for as long as they want.
