Looking for a new hairstyle can be a long process. Pinterest is known to have interesting styles, but they are often not practical for every day. Even during this pandemic, no one has the time to try them–but with these tutorials, doing your hair at home is easier than it looks. Below are hairstyles you will love to try:
#1. Messy French Twist
(Photo attribution: Irrelephantblog)
- Start by prepping the hair with Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. Spray generously and quickly blow dry on a cold setting. We added Bumble and Bumble Dry Spun Finish to the mix to add that airy feel to the ends (plus texture)!
- Take your comb and start teasing the crown section. Add a little bit of tease to the sides and lightly tease the ends as well. (Don’t be shy in this step–it will help you mold your shape)!
- With your fingers, lightly “comb” all the hair back as if you’re about to do a mid-pony.
- Follow through to the ends and start rolling the ends in the direction you want the twist in. We rolled to the left. (Roll using all four fingers in a circular motion).
- Keep rolling until you reach the head, this is also the part where you can “poof” out the crown a bit and loosen it up.
- Now that you have the shape you want, go ahead and pin the twist to the rest of the hair. *Pin the bobby’s as if you’re crocheting through the hair so you don’t flatten the twist. Lock it down by spraying. A way to do this is: do not open the bobby, keep it closed and aim right at the line where your twist ends (where the bobby is located in the last photo above). Weave the bobby pin like you’re crocheting or hand sewing to lock it in, grab another bobby pin and do the same thing, repeating until it feels secure.
#2. Messy Bun
I’ve been wearing these a lot recently since it’s simple and low maintenance. Here is a quick tutorial for the messy bun look.
Step #1: First, pull together your hair and hold it straight up
Step #2: Then, twist your hair down to a few inches above the crown.
Step #3: Wrap your hair around itself until it forms a loose bun right on top of your head.
Step #4: Pin the bun in place with bobby pins. Anywhere from four to eight, depending on how thick your hair is. It should not be too neat–the goal is to keep the bun secure.
Step #5: Finally, if you would like, pull loose strands of hair from the nape of your neck and around your face
#3. Reverse Braided Bun

A nice alternative to the bun is never a bad idea! In just six steps you can have this beautiful hairstyle:
- Begin by flipping your hair upside-down and combing straight down.
- Starting from the nape of your neck, create an inside-out French braid.
- Finish the braid at the crown of your head and put the remaining hair up into a ponytail.
- Use the ponytail to make a messy bun.
- Carefully loosen each section of the braid by slightly pulling it apart.
- Complete the look with hairspray!
#4. Short Stack
(Photo attribution: thebeautydepartment.com)
This look is perfect for short hair. Plus, it’s quick and easy!
- Lightly tease your crown area.
- Pinch both sides together at the back of the head. Twist them over once and then secure with a bobby pin.
- Go in with a tail comb and pull up a little as you see in photo 5 for a little extra height.
- Tilt your head forward and give the back a little bit of hairspray.
- Near the crown area (to the side of and above the bobby pins) put your fingers into the hair, tousling for just a little bit of texture.
- Check the back of the updo in a hand mirror to make sure it looks balanced. Then, check from the side as well to assure that it looks good with your profile.
#5. DIY Curling Your Hair (No iron)
A beautiful curl makes a statement. Here are the steps to achieve at home heatless curls:
Step 1: Start off by pulling your hair up into a ponytail.
Step 2: Spray small one-inch sections of hair with water so they are slightly damp, wrapping each piece individually around your fingers to create a curl.
Step 3: Use a clip to secure the curl against your scalp. Once you’ve worked through your entire head, let time work its magic.
Step 4: Once your hair air dries completely, unpin the individual curls and take down your ponytail.
I hope these five simple, but exciting, hair hacks will give you inspiration.
